Diplomate, American Board of Optometry

Dr. James Boccuzzi was born and raised in New Britain, CT.  He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1974 with a Bachelors degree in Biology.  Dr. Boccuzzi then earned his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the New England College of Optometry after graduating in 1979.  He has been providing eye care in the Danielson area for over thirty years.

Dr. Boccuzzi founded Killingly Eye Care in 1993 and was joined by Dr. Macneil in 1998. Dr. Stirba joined the practice in 2010 and recently Dr. Sheperd joined the practice in 2017.

Dr. Boccuzzi is a member of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists and the American Association of Optometry.  He earned his Fellowship in the prestigious American Academy of Optometry in 1983.  He holds an Advanced Practice Certification, allowing him to practice Optometry at the highest level allowed by Connecticut law.

Dr. Boccuzzi has been the Consulting Optometrist to the University of Connecticut’s Sports Medicine Department for twenty years, treating and training the University’s athletes.  In addition Dr. Boccuzzi has been the Optometrist for the Kansas City Royals professional baseball team.

Awards and Recognition

Dr. Boccuzzi has served on the Connecticut Association of Optometrists Board of Directors.  He has also served as Treasurer/Secretary for four years and served as the President of the Connecticut Association of Optometrists from 2011 to 2012.  Dr. Boccuzzi was awarded the Connecticut Associations Optometrist of the Year in 2006.
In January of 2012 Dr. Boccuzzi became one of the first Optometrists in Connecticut to become Board Certified and was granted the status of Diplomate, American Board of Optometry.

He is on the founding Board of Directors for the Connecticut Eye Care Alliance.  Dr. Boccuzzi is on the speaker panel for Allergan and Shire Pharmaceuticals and has also has lectured at the University of Connecticut on ocular related topics.

Activities and Involvement

Dr. Boccuzzi has been active in youth soccer for many years as a coach and administrator.  He has been the President of Mansfield Junior Soccer, a founder and first President of the WAM (Willington, Ashford & Mansfield) club, and a founder and first President of Northeast United Premier Soccer Club. He also has been the Northeast District VP for four years and served on the State Board of Directors for CJSA for six years.

Dr. Boccuzzi currently resides in Storrs, Connecticut with his wife Donna. They have two children, Ryan and his wife Elsa, and their daughter Jeralyn.  Dr. Boccuzzi and his wife enjoy, gardening, traveling and their friends and family.
