Diabetic and Hypertension Examination
Diabetes affects over 20 million Americans and the numbers are growing. An eye examination can show the first signs of this disease. Our goal is to preserve the vision of our patients by thorough fundus examinations and detailed documentation of their visual condition. By utilizing advanced technology such as Optical Coherence Tomography we can assure our patients that they will receive the care they deserve.
Diabetic retinopathy causes hemorrhages and leakage called exudates in the retina
Hypertension also affects the vasculature of our eyes. The retina of the eye is an ideal place to examine the blood vessels and changes in the retina often indicate what is occurring throughout our body. It is not unusual for us to observe abnormalities in the retinal blood vessels due to hypertension that will initiate treatment. Because there are so many potentially severe problems linked to hypertension such as strokes and heart disease this is an important part of your eye examination.
